About Bulgaria Public Holidays
Article 154 weekend replacement rules add 4 May and 27-28 December. Easter holidays do not receive weekend replacements. National Awakening Day on 1 November is a school holiday and is excluded from this general calendar. Additional government closures remain subject to announcement.
Orthodox Christian holidays play a central role in the Bulgarian public holiday calendar. Orthodox Easter — Великден — is the most important religious event of the year. In 2027, Orthodox Easter Sunday falls on 2 May, with Good Friday on 30 April and Easter Monday on 3 May both designated as public holidays. Christmas holidays cover 24, 25 and 26 December, with substitute dates on 27 and 28 December in 2027. St. George's Day on 6 May, known as Гергьовден, doubles as the Day of Valour and the Bulgarian Army, honouring both the patron saint and the armed forces. Article 154 automatically provides substitute working days for weekend public holidays, except for Easter holidays.
