About the Bengali Calendar (Bangabda)

The Bengali calendar (Bangabda, বাংলা সন) is a solar calendar used in Bangladesh and West Bengal (India). It was reformed in Bangladesh in 1987 by a government committee led by Dr. Muhammad Shahidullah to align with the astronomical solar year.

The Bengali year starts on April 14 (Pohela Boishakh) and has 365 days normally, 366 in leap years. The first 5 months (Boishakh–Bhadro) each have 31 days; the remaining 7 months have 30 days, except Choitro which has 30 or 31 days in leap years.

In India (West Bengal), the traditional Bengali calendar follows a slightly different calculation (based on the Saka calendar), so dates may differ by 1 day from Bangladesh's official calendar.
